Our Accomplishments
There's no doubt, we couldn't do this without all of our great Mobsters! A huge 'Thank You!' goes out to all of them for lending a hand on our conservation projects throughout Australia. Below is a list of everyone's achievements and the environmental outcomes gained from our projects.
2011
As it stood at the end of 2011 Wild Mob has run a total of 49 weeks in the field, mobilising over 280 volunteers including high school students, university students and enthusiasts members of the public to support environmental management and conservation programs in national parks, nature refuges and reserves around Australia.
Project Achievements
Brampton Island National Park, Qld - Established September 2009
Partners: Reef Catchments Mackay-Whitsundays, QLD Parks and Wildlife Service (QPWS), Great Barrier Reef Marine Park Authority (GBRMPA)

Removed over 13, 000kgs of invasive vegetation

Approximately 2000m2 of endangered littoral rainforest rehabilitated, showing significant native recruitment and canopy formation

Native wildlife are once again utilising the area, eg new scrub foul nests established and increased koala activity

Over 1, 800kgs of marine debris removed from Brampton's beaches, important Green Sea Turtle nesting sites

Reef, whale and turtle monitoring reported to QPWS and GBRMPA
Mt Kosciusko National Park, NSW - Established January 2010

Four weeks of field surveys identifying and recording invasive Orange-Hawkweed which threatens local flora and fauna

Data continues to assist NPWS adapt and implement efficient management strategies
Kings Run Wildlife Refuge, TAS - Established November 2010

Removed over 2, 000kgs of Sea Spurge and Slender Thistle from threatened coastal habitat

conducted two seasons of shoreline bird population and diversity surveys for Birdlife Australia and University Tasmania

Conducted Banksia and Blackwood health and population surveys for TPWS

More then 200kgs of marine debris removed from coast line

Continue to assist with erosion control and rehabilitation in former 4WD access areas
Avocet Nature Refuge, QLD - Established April 2011
Partners: QLD Department of Environment and Resource Management (DERM), Bridled Nailtail Trust (BNT), Avocet Nature Refuge, Hunting and Conservation QLD

Facilitated four Allen Activity Index predator population and monitoring surveys

Supplied data to DERM and Hunting and Conservation QLD to inform predator control strategies

Continue to assist with annual Bridled Nailtail mark and recapture population surveys

Conducting bird species diversity surveys, so far identifying 100 species within the refuge

Continue to assist with field station maintenance and development

Provide support for where suitable for Bridled Nailtail Trust initiatives
Wollemi National Park, NSW - Established September 2011
Partners: NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service (NPWS), Local landholders

Identified invasive Black Berry problem in riparian zones on Cudgegong River, management plan to be developed with project partners

Monitoring of feral predators within Wollemi National Park, long term goal to inform NPWS control strategies
2010
Roughly 120 volunteers took part in 22 different camps throughout the year at three locations
- Brampton Island Conservation Project: 8800kg of weeds and roughly 1200kg of marine debris were collected, helping regenerate the endangered beach scrub habitat and ensuring safer beaches for turtles, seabirds and other marine life
- Kings Run Conservation Project: 1600kg of invasive weeds and 100kg of rubbish removed from the area’s coastline, helping to restore the former cattle property to native Tasmanian coastal habitat
- Mt Kosciuszko Conservation Project: Hundreds of new Orange hawkweed plants identified across several hectares, helping with the National Park's efforts to contain and eradicate the agressive species
